Darling Downs and Toowoomba Chinese Language School (DD&TCLS) is a non-profit community weekend school specialising in Chinese language learning. The school is established with an aim at blending the best elements of Chinese and Australian culture together, on the basis of a philosophy that learning other languages is fun and rewarding to everyone. The DD&TCLS teachers hold professional qualifications in Education and have had many years of experience in teaching children in Australia. Such skills and experience allow them to deliver Chinese language teaching and learning in a way that customises various teaching and learning styles in accordance to different culture background of the students. The DD&TCLS teaching team has promised to dedicate their best to provide an opportunity to everyone in Toowoomba local community to study Chinese language in a vibrant and supportive learning environment.

Commencing from early 2017, DD&TCLS offers mandarin Chinese classes to Chinese background, Pre to Year 12 students. In the future, in response to the community demand the DD&TCLS will offer such classes to non-Chinese background children and even adults.

DD&TCLS is proudly supported by the overseas Chinese Affaires Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic Of China. DD&TCLS is also the member of Queensland Chinese Education Association. It is the only International Chinese test HSK & YCT exam centre in Darling Downs and Toowoomba area.


At present, we use a set of “Mandarin Chinese” textbooks provided by the overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China as the basic course. The teaching of Chinese Pinyin is supplemented when teaching the Mandarin Chinese book I to further develop students’ ability of reading Chinese through Pinyin.

We also use “HSK standard course” for those students who would like to attend HSK exam.

Teaching Team

Ms Mia Meng Wu

Graduated from The University of Queensland in 2011 with a Master degree of Communications. She was the Public Relations and Campaign Manager of South Australian Tourism Commission Shanghai Office, specializing on copywriting and highly sensitive to the Chines characters. Passed the Professional Mandarin test in China, and obtained a first-class certificate.

Currently, she is the principal of Darling Downs and Toowoomba Chinese Language School, mainly responsible for daily management of the school and HSK Chinese proficiency test training. She is also a certified HSK examiner. Teacher Wu’s teaching style is rigorous, delicate and lively, and she is good at combining Chinese language education with traditional Chinese culture. Explain the profound things in a simple way, and cultivate the students’ enthusiasm and systematises in learning Chinese to the greatest extent.

Ms Guo Yong

Guo Yong graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2007 with a master’s degree in accounting and finance. After graduation, she taught Chinese at a local primary school and also taught Chinese in the community and kindergartens, accumulating rich teaching experience. Currently, Guo Yong is pursuing a master’s degree in education at the University of Southern Queensland.

Ms Guo’s teaching style is tailored to each student’s needs and is characterized by respect for every child. She is dedicated to creating a lively and engaging learning environment where students can enjoy learning Chinese. She hopes that every child will fall in love with learning Chinese in a happy and joyful atmosphere. Through personalized teaching methods, Guo Yong stimulates students’ interest in learning, helping them master Chinese in a relaxed and enjoyable environment while gradually building their confidence and sense of achievement in learning the language.

Ms Yanting Deng

Graduated from domestic higher education university and holds a domestic teacher qualification certificate. Mrs. Deng has more than ten years of teaching experience in domestic primary, secondary schools and international high school. She has got Putonghua proficiency test level 2A and reached the national teaching level of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

Mrs. Deng has a better understanding of the cultural differences between China and the West, and the psychology and learning methods of overseas students. She believes that the role of teachers is not to teach but to help students learn happily. She is good at adding music and rhythmic teaching to Chinese  class. At the same time, Mrs. Deng is also very serious, responsible and caring. She has rich theoretical knowledge of pedagogy and can integrate Western children’s educational concepts into Chinese teaching, so that children can learn Chinese happily and learn Chinese well.
